Second Grade Rules and Consequences

Grand Prairie Schools incorporate Character Counts behavior model into their schools, which is represented by six pillars.  Those pillars are citizenship, fairness, caring, respect, trustworthiness, and responsibility.  Our classroom rules are taken from those pillars.

Be fair.

Examples:  Share and get along.  Don’t cut in line.  Talk with permission.

Be Caring.

Examples:  Don’t tattle, tease, or touch others. Treat others like you want to be treated.

Be Respectful.

       Examples:  Follow the directions.  Work quietly and do not disturb others.

Be trustworthy.

Examples:  Tell the truth.  Don’t steal.  Don’t play in the bathroom.

Be a good citizen.

Examples:  Help keep the classroom clean, beginning with your own desk.

Be responsible.

Examples:  Remember your homework, books, and supplies.  Be safe.  Be responsible for your actions, words, and learning.

**Positive reinforcement, such as verbal praise and rewards (i.e. play money for the classroom store, stickers, etc.), are given to encourage good behavior.

Each teacher has a behavior system where the students move their names each time a rule is broken.  Daily consequences are given for disobeying the rules.  They are:

1st Time = Warning

2nd Time = 5 Minutes off recess

3rd Time = 10 Minutes off recess

4th Time = No recess

5th Time = Office and/or Note to parent

***Students will be sent to the office immediately, regardless of what the chart shows, for any severely disruptive behavior.

Your child begins with a “clean slate” each morning; however, each teacher keeps a weekly total of the behavior to write in your child’s Monday folder.  This helps you and your child see any areas in which improvement is needed.  The color on the behavior summary stands for the number of times your child moved his or her card during the previous week.

Green    =    0 to 2 times

Yellow   =    3 to 5 moves

Red       =    6 and above

In addition to the behavior summary, the Monday folder also holds graded work.  Each week, you will need to initial in the appropriate area to show that you reviewed your child’s work and behavior summary.  Your child returns the folder to the teacher the following day.

The Second Grade Teachers thank you for your assistance with this.
